Royal Melbourne Cattle Show. A team of students from Wagga Wagga Christian College enjoyed great success at the Royal Melbourne Show, 2019.

Months of preparing the cattle by the students was tested at one of the most prestigious agricultural shows in the country. The College has an established track record of success within their Cattle Team – a close knit ‘family’ of students ranging from the Junior years to Year 12 students.

Under the guidance of experienced staff, the students take responsibility for ensuring the cattle are ready for showing. An environment where team work is essential students thrive. David Crick, teacher and Cattle Team Leader 2019, is understandably proud of his team,

“I get a thrill to see the growth in the students as they experience success resulting from their hard work and connectedness, both with each other and the animals they are caring for. The Cattle Team allows students to come together and work hard for a common interest, in a supportive environment.”

The College has been hugely successful over the past six years they have participated in the Royal Melbourne Show. The 2018 Show saw two students win significant awards: Nicolaas Van Honk won Senior Grand Champion Parader and Charlotte Nugent won Grand Champion Beef Parader.

2019 was a particularly successful year for the Cattle Team as a whole – the team received numerous awards at the Wagga Show including Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Parader, while at Canberra Show earlier in the year the team earnt a record 18 ribbons including Reserve Champion Parader.

The latest show, Royal Melbourne 2019 saw sisters Charlotte, 17, and Jemima Nugent, 14, named senior champion parader and reserve champion in the junior paraders section respectively. Meanwhile, fellow student Josie Cox placed second in the paraders competition for the Angus feature breed competition at Melbourne and the steers exhibited performed well too with two of the steers placing third in their class for the export category
