The Secondary School Chess team competed in the first round of the NSW Junior Chess League at Kooringal High School on Monday. The College team was up against some older, more experienced players and used the competition as a learning opportunity. Angus Tait, Year 7, commented that the sophisticated play of his opponent “led me into traps where I lost critical pieces”. Mr Trevor Gyles, College Coach, is fired up for the next round, “There was some great camaraderie amongst the players and our students demonstrated some great offensive and defensive skills. The boys certainly grew through their exposure to this level of competition, and importantly they enjoyed it and are keen for the next opportunity to test their skills.”
