Term 2, 2022
From Week 6 to Week 9 girls from Years 8 to 10 competed in the John Vrolyks Open Girls Basketball Shield competition. The girls demonstrated outstanding skills throughout the competition and it was clear to all that our girls play regularly. Starting in Pool B the team won every game and progressed to the semi finals. We played Kooringal High School in the Semi where the girls held the lead from the second quarter until the last 20 seconds of the game. Unfortunately we were not able to progress to the Grand Final this year. However, in the playoff match against Kildare our girls came from nine points down in the third quarter to win by nine points at the final siren. Their team defence was a standout, holding Kildare Catholic College scoreless in the final quarter. The College also had some serious offensive power on display through Carneh Yongai and Mercy Amani, scoring 60 points and 56 points respectively for the tournament.
The College placed third overall in the competition and have entrenched themselves in Pool A for next year.
Congratulations girls and thank you to Mrs Emily Cunningham on the bench and Mr Thomas Yongai for refereeing.
