International women's day morning tea

Term 1 2023

Wagga Women's Health Centre Inc. hosted an International Women’s Day Morning Tea at the Mercure last Wednesday. College Captains, Hannah McDowell and Shiphrah Janiglass accompanied by Ms Catherine Clarke went to this special event. With speakers from Wagga and Brisbane, the girls gained insights into the challenges women face in not only Australia but overseas. Vickie Birkinshaw from The Curious Rabbit spoke on gender inequalities giving perspective to our day-to-day experience as she highlighted the difficulties many women face in other countries. Broken to Brilliant TM, a Brisbane-based organization that aims to support those suffering from domestic violence was represented and offered insights into how individuals can create a new chapter in their lives. “I found hearing the different perspectives of women in our community helpful,” said Hannah, “There are many things being done in both our community and elsewhere that support women. I was impacted by the idea that it is one thing to speak but another thing to take action.” Congratulations to Lynne Gibson from Lilier Lodge for being named 2023 Wagga Wagga Local Woman of the Year.
