Year 5 excursion to sovereign Hill

Week 5 term 3 2022

Today Year 5 embarked on their much anticipated excursion across the border. First stop Echuca where the highlights included a paddle steamer ride and sharing the home cooked morning tea which each family contributed to.

Day 2 dawned as a busy one at Sovereign Hill - travelling underground into the mines, learning about artefacts from the past as they participated in a school from colonial days. Students discovered that writing with pen and ink isn't quite as easy as a biro! The group was looking forward to visiting the infamous lolly shop, going bowling and dressing warmly in preparation for the sound and light show at night!

Digging for gold preoccupied Year 5 on their final morning south of the border! The students explored the Central Deborah Gold Mine in Bendigo where the unanimous favourite experience was the explosion/ dynamite demonstration and seeing a gold reef in quartz in the rock wall!
