Art Students, 1st, 2nd, 3rd

2 March, 2022 WWCC Visual Arts students were delighted to be a part of the Wagga Women’s Health Centre Art Competition this month. The competition and art exhibition based on the theme, ‘What Women Experience’ has been a wonderful opportunity for our students to promote their work and be a part of Wagga’s thriving art community. Students entered some powerful pieces that celebrated their own experience of artmaking through COVID, with a special focus on their personal expression and stories. HSC art student Merryn Cox received first place for her portraits of the women in her family. “ These portraits are of the strong farming female role-models in my life (including one self-portrait) – taken during COVID & displaying the hardships of living through the pandemic – I compared it to the hardships, isolation & brutality of living on & working with this beautiful land.” Ratidzo Nyangu received second place, followed by Grace Wheeler in third place. To be showcased & exhibited is an amazing opportunity and achievement. We congratulate our hardworking students on their important accomplishments and look forward to the exhibition launch on Saturday 12th March at 1pm at The Curious Rabbit Art Gallery & Café. We would like to thank the staff of The Curious Rabbit Art Gallery & Café, as well as the Women’s Health Centre for all the work they do in the community and their support of our students.
