24 March 2020 Astro Camp was held at Yachting Point, Blowering Dam on Friday 20th March to Sunday 22nd March. On Friday we drove for 2 hours to the camping spot and set up camp. While the sun was going down most of us went for a swim in the dam. Some of us had common sense and stayed out of the cold water. On the Saturday some of us woke up at 7am to go down to the dam to fish, Brayden and Noah taught all the girls how to cast, and we all spent hours casting and trying to catch fish, we did not succeed. After breakfast, we split up and some people went kayaking and others went with Mr Gyles exploring. We found a hill and set up a massive tarp to make a slide, the slide failed though so we decided to swim across straight to the other hill. For an hour or two, we skipped rocks and lazed around. After lunch, we all went for a car ride to Yarrangobilly River and crossed the little river. We went upstream, though many of us regretted getting in as it was freezing. After that we went to Kiandra, to look at a burnt out building and the landscape. On this car trip we got to see the amazing regrowth of the burnt landscape, through the black trunks of trees, bright green life popped out. Saturday night’s dinner was the famous Van Honk curry which was delicious. Once the sun went down the telescopes were set up and we all looked through them to see the night sky. Jye and Anthony were the photographers of the night and took brilliant photos of the stars and constellations. Through the telescopes we saw Orion’s Belt, Omega Centauri, Southern Cross and many other constellations. Sunday morning we packed up and left camp, going back to civilisation, showers and proper toilets. Isobel Moane Year 11 Senior Student
