Buzzington Palace

A new insect residence, fit for royalty, has been installed in the Junior School playground!

Buzzington Palace

Term 4, 2021 With funding from a Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant, the Junior School has installed a native bee “hotel” (nursery). With its generous proportions, the hotel has been named ‘Buzzington Palace’. Stingless native bees, one and all, are invited to lay their eggs inside the hollows of drilled pine and bamboo sticks. By summer’s end, Junior School students hope to see hollows filled over with resin, mud, petals and leaves, a sign that a bee has laid it's eggs inside! Many thanks to College Groundsman, Mr Luke Alcorn, for his craftsmanship in constructing the native bee hotel. In addition to the hotel, the Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant has enabled the purchase of a wide range of books on bees for the Library, as well as bee-attracting plants for the playground garden beds.
