Friday 11 June 2021 A full house at the Junior School Parent Assembly on Friday were treated to some wonderful performance pieces by Miss Brooke Scriven's Year 2 class. Costumes, sets and lighting set the stage for a memorable assembly. Report by Miss Scriven 2S enjoyed learning about the naming of different Australian islands in Geography and were amused that Kangaroo Island was named for its kangaroos. This began an investigation into Kangaroo Island’s natural features and wildlife. During our learning, we watched travel TV shows to learn about Kangaroo Island. This led to a desire to write our own travel show on the island. Students wrote their own travel show in pairs, and I amalgamated the ideas and jokes to create a combined class play. There was great enthusiasm to learn the play, and all students had memorised their lines within a few days of receiving the script! Rehearsals provided opportunities for deeper comprehension of the text and to practise expression and gesture. For many students, this play was their first dramatic experience on the stage, and it was a joy to see many students discover their dramatic gifts!
