Getting to know OUr Local Artists!

AT the Curious Rabbit Gallery and Cafe Tuesday 24 May 2022 Today Year 12 had the pleasure of attending The Curious Rabbit Gallery and Cafe to meet and learn from two local artists, Juanita McLauchlan and Elizabeth Doherty. Students were able to observe and analyse artworks and talk with Juanita and Elizabeth about their amazing artworks and their recent exhibition. Students gained inspiration for their HSC projects and appreciated the feedback and knowledge shared. Year 12 Student, Liana Pitt commented, “I was so inspired by our local talent! I learnt so much from the wealth of knowledge provided – skills, techniques, problem-solving, design and strong concepts”. Tea and Time by Juanita McLauchlan Juanita is a Gamilarray woman living on Wiradjuri country in Wagga Wagga. In Tea and Time, her works are inspired by the journey of finding culture and family history through her environment and connection to the land. This exhibition was a reminder to give each other the time in which we need to grow, mature, listen and nurture, no matter what our age. My Secret Garden by Elizabeth Doherty My Secret Garden is an exhibition exploring the hidden beauty of our native flora and fauna. Focusing on connection, the series creates a sense of intimacy between the viewer and the animals depicted. "One of the main aims of my exhibition is to encourage others to focus on the beauty of a moment shared, to focus on the myriad of life all around us. Not just observing; but connecting to Country. And as we become more imbedded in the environment around us, we work harder to conserve it." You can follow Elizabeth (Doherty Studio) on Facebook and Instagram. A huge thank you to Vickie Burkinshaw, owner of The Curious Rabbit, for continuously making space & opportunities for our students.
