Inaugural Interschool Auctioneer Competition
Auctioneering workshops coupled with visits to the local Wagga Sheep Sales have broadened the experience base of the students.
MEDIA RELEASE Wagga Wagga Christian College Students participated in the inaugural Interschool Auctioneering Competition in July 2019. Four schools participated in the event with the top three placegetters from each school proceeding through to the second heat and final rounds at Ganmain Show on Saturday 24 August. Students worked hard under the tutelage of Mr Joe Wilks, local award winning Auctioneer with Elders and progressed significantly since their first attempts at selling a Chupa Chup a few months earlier. Auctioneering workshops coupled with visits to the local Wagga Sheep Sales have broadened the experience base of the students and they were excited to be involved in the first ever Interschool Auctioneering event in the Riverina. Year 7 and 8 students, Hayden Banton, Tomas Armstrong and Ned Bergmeier, prepared themselves for the big competition, “We focussed on the three ‘C’s: clarity, confidence and calmness”, said Tomas Armstrong. While Ned Bergmeier looked forward to giving the auction a go and using the skills he honed over the previous few months. “We performed in front of not only the judges but also experienced auctioneers and teachers. We needed to have a clear understanding of what product we were selling and be able to communicate that to the buyers. The other thing I concentrated on was staying on bid.” Mrs Belinda Everingham, Teacher in Charge, was thrilled with the progress the students made, “It has just been an amazing process watching the students grow as they have taken on this challenge. They have had to step out of their comfort zone and they have discovered what is possible when you take a risk and have the skills and resources available to you to support and guide you.” Amazing Results A massive congratulations to Charlotte Nugent, Year 11 and Bianca Staines, Year 8, who placed first and third overall at the inaugural Interschools Auctioneering Competition. Charlotte, Bianca and Ned Bergmeier progressed to the second and final competition at the Ganmain Show. Ganmain Show – Final Competition Congratulations to the College Auctioneering Team at the Ganmain Show, August 2019.
