Kapooka Army Band Workshops
Students in Year 5 & 6 bands, vocal ensemble and Senior Band were blessed with an opportunity to work with the Australian Army Band Kapooka.
Term 4, 2021 Students in Year 5 and 6 bands, vocal ensemble and Senior Band were blessed with an opportunity to work with musicians from the Australian Army Band Kapooka last week. Students participated in sectionals (working on their part in similar groups) and workshopped the repertoire with the whole band. Playing with the Army Band was a fantastic experience and a great inspiration for all students involved. The conductor Major De Jonge encouraged all our students to keep practising and persist with their lessons. We echo that thought and invite parents to contact Mr Xeros with any questions about getting private lessons. We definitely need more trumpets and trombones, as well as saxophones, clarinets, flutes, violins, violas and cellos! We’re very grateful for the partnership we have with the AABK. Student Reflections “Entertaining and very fun, and very exciting!” Will “It was entertaining in bass and I had a lot of fun. It was very loud but very exciting.” Leo “I really loved it. I wish it could be here next year so I can experience it again.” Amelia “I absolutely loved it and I got to do percussion – it was a great experience and I learnt a lot.” Aaliyar “I really enjoyed learning the harmony and the melody to Shotgun. It was a great experience.” Cameron “It was really exciting and interesting to see the whole Army Band play. I enjoyed doing the workshop and learning about being part of the band, and talking to members of the band.” Olivia “It was inspiring to see the disciplined nature of the Kapooka Army Band, and I enjoyed learning some new techniques for playing as an ensemble. It was nice to speak to their members about what it is like to be in the Army Band.” Rosa
