Many Curious Creatures at the College Book Parade!
The 2020 Book Week Parade cannot be stopped!
4 September 2020 The 2020 Book Week Parade cannot be stopped! With so many events being cancelled or postponed there are some things that are immovable – the College Book Week Parade is one of those things! The transformation of students into princesses, knights, the Gruffalo or their favourite superhero is always one of the highlights of the year in the College. The 2020 parade will be missing the parent and friend spectators who usually number so many that the College gymnasium can hardly contain them, but some digital connection will be made for parents and each student will take home a special souvenir of the day – which will make the 2020 Book Week Parade a day to remember. The Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book Week 2020 is themed and no matter how old we are we all love a story and Book Week 2020 is a chance to celebrate story making. Justine Tonkin, Teacher Librarian at the Christian College, is thrilled that the Book Week Parade can go ahead, “It is wonderful to see the students getting so excited about the Book Parade, the teachers get into the spirit of the day as well. The Book Week Parade is highly anticipated by the whole of Junior School.” Mrs Jane Greenlees, Head of Junior School, enjoys seeing the students’ imaginations sparked through this special event. “Book Week is a great catalyst as we continue to encourage our students in their reading. In their regular visits to the College Library the students have come in contact with the ‘Curious Creatures’ of Book Week which have been appearing in growing numbers as Book Week comes closer. Special events like this help to refocus students on the joy and importance of reading.”
