Outstanding Local High School Student Perform at Sydney Opera House

Outstanding Local High School Student Selected to Perform at Sydney Opera House Ella Bergmeier, Year 12 student at Wagga Wagga Christian College, was selected for the 2019 High School Honors Performance Series at the Sydney Opera House. Ella performed on the Cello with the Honours Performance Series. Participation in one of the two Honors Ensembles is limited to the highest-rated high school performers from across the world. Earlier in the year, Ella auditioned for the Honors Performance Series and was accepted after a review by the Honors Selection Board. Acceptance to the elite group is a direct result of the talent, dedication, and achievements demonstrated in her application and audition recording. Ella joined other performers from 46 United States, Guam, several provinces of Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Qatar, and South Korea for a special performance at the Sydney Opera House, a venue that marks the pinnacle of musical achievement. According to Nancy Richardson, Program Director, “Being selected to the Honors Performance Series is something each Finalist should be extremely proud of accomplishing. We processed more than 18,000 nominations this year and have selected nearly 300 of the most talented student performers from around the world. Working with these conductors and performing at Sydney Opera House is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that these musicians never forget”. Ella Bergmeier has studied music for nine years through the Wagga Wagga Christian College, the Riverina Conservatorium of Music and private tuition. Ella performs with the Riverina Conservatorium of Music Youth Orchestra, the Wagga Wagga Christian College Senior Band and the College String Ensemble. Ella has achieved significant milestones as a cellist in recent years, playing with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra through their Playerink program, the NSW Regional Youth Orchestra at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music as well as achieving the major Strings Scholarship at the Riverina Conservatorium of Music. In response to her selection as a Finalist, Ella said, “I’m really excited about the opportunity to play with an orchestra with musicians from all around the world. The conductor is world class and I am keen to learn from him and others. Playing in the Concert Hall at the Opera House is an added bonus.”
