15 June 2021 Kindergarten visit Vinnies Bulk Container Deposit Centre It was mesmerising watching the bottles and cans go round and round. It was also astounding to think that the million containers the Vinnies Bulk Container Deposit Centre in Wagga processes a month are transformed into items we purchase off the shelves - plastic watering cans, plastic containers, even polar fleece jumpers. KP visited the Vinnies Bulk Container Deposit Centre last Thursday and were given a bird's eye view of the machinery which sorts the bottles and cans, and even got to watch the forklift in action. The scale of the operation is significantly bigger than the Return and Earn Container deposit most of the students are familiar with in the local Woolworths Carpark. A big thank you to Paul and his team at the Wagga centre for showing the students around and answering their questions. It was great to hear how the money raised by the centre stays in our local community supporting important community initiatives such as the women's and men's homeless shelters. After being operational for just over two years the centre has processed 26 million containers with the big aim to clean up the litter trail around Wagga Wagga and regions. The students came away with renewed enthusiasm to collect their bottles and containers for recycling knowing that recycling and reusing our resources is one of the best ways to look after God's earth that is in our care.
