Water, Water Everywhere!

term 4 2022 In 2P's Science unit on ‘Water’ this term, students have been exploring where water comes from, how water evaporates from rivers, forms condensation in clouds then precipitates in the form of rain, hail or snow, feeding back into our rivers. Students have been diligently tracking the height of the Murrumbidgee River as it runs through Wagga, and the run off and dam levels of local water sources. 2P have also discovered that water features a lot in Jesus' ministry. Students have been reading stories in the gospel of Matthew about Jesus calming a storm, walking on water and even turning water into wine. They have been asking the question - who or what is more powerful? Jesus or water? Can we calm storms like Jesus? Big questions which help us all consider how great our God is. In STEM groups the Year Two students had the challenge of making a boat in order to float Jesus & his disciples in stormy weather. In groups students made a boat out of paddle pop sticks and straws and tested the boats buoyancy in the water. This was quite a challenge with some boats taking on water and revisions to the design being necessary.
