CSSA Secondary State athletics

Week 6 Term 3, 2023

On Thursday 24 August, 19 Students from the College travelled to Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre to compete in the Christian Schools Sports Association State Carnival. The day was a huge success with many students breaking personal bests and placing in the top 3. The highlight, as always, was the students' outstanding behaviour, sportsmanship and encouragement of one another. Our kids are always great ambassadors of the College and a pleasure to take away.

Congratulations to Ella Alcorn who placed 1st in Javelin, all your training paid off. A huge congratulations to Violet Burgum who not only won her 800m and 1500m runs but set a new record in the Girls 13-Year-Olds 1500 Metre, with a time of 5:12.13. Logan Burkinshaw also won his 1500m race convincingly with a time of 4:34.47. The College’s long distance champions also included Freya Howard who placed 3rd in the 800m and 2nd in 1500m, with a record-breaking time of 5:08.33, beating her PB by 21 seconds and the old record by 16 seconds. Becky Robinson's dreams of making it to CIS were finally realised in her final year of education, placing 2nd in the 200m and long jump. The Yongai siblings kept the family tradition of throwing things far, with Alexander placing 2nd in discus and 3rd in shot put while Carneh took out 3rd in shot put.

A massive thank you to Tash Burgum for giving up her time to come and support the students who travelled up via bus.
