HSC art student, Jemima Nugent recently won runner up in the 2023 Local Land Services Photography Competition. The theme, ‘The Magic of Wiradjuri Country’, celebrated the vibrant culture and awe-inspiring beauty of the Wiradjuri landscape. The many WWCC Secondary students exhibiting, skillfully captured the essence of Wiradjuri Country, showcasing a deep appreciation for the natural wonders and rich heritage of the region. As stated by art teacher, Amanda Martinez, “this competition and exhibition is an excellent platform for artists to showcase their talent in photo media and be a part of the art community in such an important way.”
This year, there were 81 entrants from 23 schools throughout the Riverina. The winning works, currently on display at the Wagga Wagga Library, will be touring around the region as part of the Local Land Services annual exhibition.
Jemima Nugent produced a beautiful black and white image, entitled ‘Hope’. The texture, tone and technique highlighting a powerful concept. We commend Jemima on her success in the photography/art community this year and as she continues to pursue her own photography body of work. Congratulations, Jemima.

Update September 2023
The success of Secondary students in the August 2023 Local Land Services Photography Competition, was officially acknowledged last week with the presentation to the College of a local indigenous artefact. Mr Greg Packer, Senior Land Service Officer from the Aboriginal Communities, Riverina Local Land Services, came and made a presentation to the College. A number of WWCC students entered the competition under the theme ‘The Magic of Wiradjuri Country’, with HSC art student Jemima Nugent winning runner up - an impressive result in a competition with entries from 23 schools across the Riverina. The winning works are currently touring the region as part of the Local Land Service Annual Exhibition.
