Week 6 Term 1, 2024
Last week the Year 11 Industrial Technology class paid a visit to Interior Constructions. The director of the business, Darren Cook, took the students on a tour through the business from the showroom to delivery, explaining the design, production and assembly processes that occur in large joinery. Students learned about career opportunities in the industry and heard stories of how the business had become the successful one it is today. Darren discussed the importance of having a clear goal and being passionate about whatever trade you decide to do. He spoke of the many training and employment opportunities they give to their apprentices and qualified staff.
Students also spoke with Darren about the impacts on the industry with the recent silicosis impact on using engineered stone benchtops, and how most engineered stone companies have redesigned their materials and processes so that they can adapt and change their product lines while still making a profitable business.
This is part of an Industry Study task that goes across Year 11 and 12 for Industrial Technology students. The College and Mr Forbes-Taber are always so thankful for the expertise and time that Darren and his team give to our students.
